Meditation of the Heart

While there are many forms of meditation, each of the three presented in this series can be understood by its name and its simple description. My mind balks at complex explanations and my knowledge of meditations is entry-level. But through creativity, and with receptivity to inspiration, I have gleaned suitable practices. These three meditations are found in Discourses, a principal book by Meher Baba.*

The meditation of the heart is represented by a steady and unhampered flow of love from the aspirant to the divine Beloved.*

In 1990, Stephen Michael Camp and I met at A Course in Miracles, where after six weeks we shared a momentous night that would rewrite the course of our lives. Together for six years, I lived the fulfillment of his first words to me—“I only want to sing my songs to God.” He was a man who I had seen hold his head in his hands and say “Jesus,” certain that He was always there. Stephen’s faith left a palpable impression.

Spiritual Flight
Today as I did meditate I was led on a spiritual flight. Jesus the Christ was on my left and the Holy Spirit on my right. The Spirit asked to carry me in his arms while Jesus led the way. He carried me over the rocky road and explained my task this way. He asked for my will to become one with his and to his will I did commend, And he told me for now and for evermore that I’d be of this world but not in it.

Today as I did meditate I was led on a spiritual flight. Jesus the Christ was on my left and the Holy Spirit on my right. Then He led me on to a beautiful pool whose beauty was kept hidden By wild angry fish both large and small that leapt and thrashed like demons. Jesus said the fish were the grievances I held within my heart. They disturbed the beauty of my spiritual pool and from love kept me apart.

Today as I did meditate I was led on a spiritual flight. Jesus the Christ was on my left and the Holy Spirit on my right. Well they both said they’d help me catch the fish and remove them one by one, Till the surface of my spiritual pool became clear as a crystal sun. Then we all sat on the bank and got high with the love that’s stored in our heart, And all around us were diamonds and jewels and a taste of abundance was ours.

Today as I did meditate I was led on a spiritual flight. Jesus the Christ was on my left and the Holy Spirit on my right.*

My realization is, “If you want to become spiritual, find someone who is, and get to know that person.”
