Finding Hearts On My Walk
In mid-April 2025, after a seven-and-a-half-month pilgrimage to Meherabad,* I returned home to Washington State in the US, where I have resided for four-and-a-half years. Initially grateful to no longer need a car, I have only walked here, enjoying my strolls through the nearby neighborhoods and delighted by the continuous scattering of buttons of yellow flowers growing in the grass between the sidewalk and the boulevard. This past summer’s walks, however, offered me a new kind of enjoyment. It was on my daily excursions south to the mail shipping store, and north by the large regional library and four short blocks of stores, that I found hearts on the sidewalk.
My realization is, “Where there is a surprise without an explanation, the heart selects the message.”
* Meherabad. The site of Avatar Meher Baba’s Tomb-Shrine (Samadhi) and site of world pilgrimage as well as His early primary residence, ashram, and headquarters of His activities until 1944; now overseen by the Meherabad Trust.
