A Higher, Guiding Inner Voice

Porch of the tomb shrine of Avatar Meher Baba, India
Meher Baba said, “I am never silent. I speak eternally. The voice that is heard deep within the soul is My voice—the voice of inspiration, of intuition, of guidance. To those who are receptive to this voice, I speak.”*
1990, June, Longmeadow. Two months after I’d stopped anti-depressants, an inner voice spoke for the first time,
My cup runneth over
. Surprised—I accepted its reassurance.
1990, October. After
A Course in Miracles
meeting, an inner voice said,
I like you,
but I didn’t like this man
.
As I told him, he leaped up, revealing, “I have always loved you.”
2003, December, Meherabad. Facing a permanent separation from the man who brought me to Meher Baba, I sobbed as a mandali, a disciple, (in her eighties) comforted me. Later I heard,
Child, I have taken you on my lap and comforted you, as you deserve, and now you are fine.
2013, April, the Boston Marathon. That morning, I uncharacteristically put Meher Baba’s photo in my pocket. Our family moved through crowds as two explosions sounded, followed by sirens, fifty minutes after my daughter had finished. My brother: “This is serious.” Me: My inner voice says,
You have to get out of the city. You’ll be fine, but you have to get out of the city—now!
Subways closed. We walked miles to a train—unnerved but safe.
My realization is, “There is spiritual writing that may awaken us to what we have experienced but not understood for its source.”
